Woven patches: detail beyond thread

Embroidery has a physical floor on line weight. Woven patches don't share it. If your logo carries thin serifs, small type, or fine artwork, weaving is the technique that reproduces it accurately at cap scale.

02 / the technique

The image is the fabric

Embroidery draws with thread on top of fabric; weaving builds the image into fabric. Threads several times finer than embroidery floss are interlaced to form the artwork, which is why a woven patch reproduces a six-point established date, a hairline rule, or dense multi-color detail without degradation. If a previous cap order blurred your logo, this is the corrective specification.

Two finish options: a merrow (overlocked) edge for the traditional patch profile, or a laser-cut edge following any custom shape. Patches are sewn — never heat-pressed — onto caps built in the same production run, so placement repeats precisely from the first cap to the last.

Woven patches also standardize a multi-style program. The same patch reads identically on a trucker, a dad cap, a beanie, and a bucket — one approved mark across four fabrics and four seasons, with no per-style redigitizing.

Alternative patch routes: leather for premium weight, sublimated for photographic color, appliqué for large fabric shapes.

Woven patch questions

An embroidered patch builds the image from stitched thread, which imposes a physical minimum on line weight. A woven patch interlaces much finer threads into the image itself, holding hairline detail and small lettering embroidery cannot reproduce.

When the logo contains fine detail, small text, or many colors in a small area — or when you need one identical mark across multiple cap styles and fabrics, including knits.

Merrow (overlocked) edges for the traditional look, or laser-cut edges for custom shapes following the artwork. Both produced and sewn on in-house.
